General Frequently Asked Questions

You don’t need to have prior experience to own many types of franchises. However, you will benefit from having business acumen, management experience, and familiarity with the industry. If you’re considering a franchise but worried about having limited experience, look for a brand that offers comprehensive training.

Woofie’s is interested in franchise owners with a passion for animals and an interest in being actively involved in their business operations. The ideal franchisee will be a compassionate person who embraces the Woofie’s culture and commitment to excellence.

The main difference between a franchise and a chain is the ownership structure. In a chain, a parent company owns every location, and those locations are managed locally. Franchises are not owned by the larger entity and instead have individual owners who operate their locations under the franchise’s brand name and business model. In both types of businesses, the corporate entity typically has authority over large operational decisions. Because franchises are independently owned, most of the profits go to the franchise owner, with varying fees paid to the franchise. In contrast, chain stores are corporate-owned and operated, meaning the larger corporation receives profits. This is why many people choose to license a franchise and be their own boss rather than work for a chain.

You may wonder if franchises carry a higher business risk because financing and operations are left to the franchise owner. However, every franchise is different; some offer ample guidance and systems to help mitigate risk. Franchises also could have higher rewards and profit potential for the owner. When you franchise with Woofie’s, you’re backed by a home office team that is ready to continually support you!

We think so! Especially when you find the right brand that already has an established reputation, record of success, and training program. You can skip initial business development steps that a sole proprietorship would require, such as creating a business plan, poring over market research, and developing branding.

After you find a franchise, you like and determine if you’re the right match for each other, most franchises will then review your finances and other qualifications. Then, you typically review the Financial Disclosure Document (FDD) together so you can get your questions answered. The next steps vary by franchise. For example, Woofie’s invites new franchise owners to attend a discovery day to meet the management team and learn all about owning a franchise. If we’re a perfect match, it’s time to become a franchisee!
